For those of you who don’t know, an alliance business center is a place where a company, a group of companies, or another nonprofit organization (e.g., a government agency) has an office that is used for fundraising, building alliances, sharing strategy, and much more.
According to the Partnership for New America Foundation, a nonprofit that focuses on helping entrepreneurs become more successful, more economically successful, and more socially and politically successful, a typical alliance business center typically has a staff of about 15. In other words, your typical alliance business center is not just a place with more chairs, but also staff members.
The average alliance business center has a staff of just 15, which is pretty small for an organization that’s supposed to be helping entrepreneurs. But even so, the Partnership for New America Foundation estimates that the average partnership business is the third-largest nonprofit in the country. So in a way, the average alliance business is one of the largest non-profit organizations in the country.
The Partnership for New America Foundation is a 501(c)4 organization. (That means tax-exempt under IRS rules.) The foundation’s stated mission is to “support the work of entrepreneurs and small businesses through public-private partnership efforts.” The foundation has partnered with three other organizations to form a community-based network of more than 200 community-based agencies that are dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and small businesses succeed.
If you’ve ever wondered what’s going on behind the scenes at some of the largest and most controversial organizations in the country, you would be forgiven for thinking your tax dollars are funding the exact same things they sponsor. The Partnership for New America Foundation is one of ten such organizations which operates as a nonprofit tax-exempt business corporation. The other members are American Jewish Committee, Community Foundation for Southern New Jersey, Greater Cincinnati Food Bank, Lake County Food Bank, N.C.
The Partnership for New America Foundation is one of the largest such organizations in the country, having more than $1 million in assets. As I wrote in an earlier post about the new Foundation’s website, the group is also the largest non-profit donor to the Democratic National Committee. The Foundation has been called “the most aggressive, and most successful, new front group in American politics.
For any individual who wants to use the services of a foundation, the process is a little different than what you might know. In a nutshell, you have to go to the foundation’s website to fill out an application. There you have to provide basic information, including your name, phone number, address, email, and the names of your spouse and children. Then you have to fill out a form regarding how you would like to be involved in their work.
The foundation forms that I’ve seen so far are a little confusing. For example, you have to decide whether or not to be involved in their fundraising efforts. You also have to decide whether or not you actually want to get involved in their work. Well that’s the part I don’t understand because I’m not sure I actually want to get involved in their work. I mean, I might get a free coffee and I might get to wear a shirt.
I’ve been involved in many foundation projects and was the founder of the charity I work for. I really like giving back, but from my perspective, I don’t think I’ll want to get involved in foundation’s fundraising. I feel like I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be doing with their money anyway.
I actually have a lot of respect for foundations, as they are an altruistic organization that is doing something good for the world. I also have a lot of respect for them for the amount of work they put into helping other people. Its just not something I would be interested in doing my own work. If that makes any sense.
